October 28: National First Responders Day – We spoke to several first responders and asked how you can show support for them and/or celebrate them on National First Responders Day. All of them had the same answer: pull to the right when you see an emergency vehicle coming and do your best to stay out of the way when they are working on a scene. Having a list of medications and a medical history when they arrive on the scene is also incredibly helpful. Of course, it is best to do these every day of the year and not just on this one particular day! Do you know what else they love? Being thanked for their hard work. The next time you see a first responder in public, take a moment to say a quick “thank you!” It will make their day! If you’re looking for something more to do to celebrate this national holiday, call your local fire department, police station, or hospital and ask for ways to volunteer or what sort of treats or donations are accepted.
