The Share button was on the bottom of the Files by Google app, and it gave you quick access to send your files off. Understandably, the company got rid of the button. It wouldn’t make much sense to keep a dedicated button when you can tap and hold on a file. When you do that, you’ll have the option to share it.

When it comes to smartphone operating systems, we’re all used to there being multiple ways to do one thing. If you want to share the file, you can tap on it and tap on the share icon in the respective app. Also, you can tap and hold on the file or use the three-dot menu. This is most likely why Google got rid of the Share button in the first place. But, it’s back now. According to 9To5Google, the latest beta (version 1.0.440568297) for the Files by Google app brings with it the Share button for Pixel phones. It’s right at the bottom of the screen along with the Clean and Browse buttons. When you tap on the Share button, you’ll be taken to a separate Nearby Share screen where you have a couple of options. First off, this feature will be a bit limited at first. If you want to share that way, the receiving user will need to have the updated version of the Files by Google app. As for the functionality, under the cute little picture, you’ll see two buttons: send and receive. Those are pretty axiomatic. Tapping Send will let you choose the file you want to send to the receiver. Tapping Receive will make your phone visible via Nearby Share.
