The Galaxy Fold, which launched as Samsung’s first-ever foldable smartphone in early 2019, is currently receiving the October security update in France, SamMobile reports. The rollout should soon expand to many other regions. The new firmware version is F900FXXS6FUI5. The official changelog for the update only mentions the generic “improved security” and that’s probably it. The Fold is unlikely to be receiving any new features and/or user-facing improvements with this update. It received the One UI 3.1.1 update last month, along with other older Galaxy foldables. But the latest SMR does bring plenty of vulnerability fixes. Samsung last week confirmed that this month’s security update includes fixes for more than 60 privacy and security issues. More than half of them were found in Google’s version of Android, while the rest were affecting the Korean firm’s custom skin, i.e. One UI. At least nine of the patched vulnerabilities were of critical severity. Along with the Galaxy Fold, Samsung is also rolling out these security fixes to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The rollout for this device has already reached most major markets in Europe. SamMobile reports that the Z Flip 5G is also picking up the October security update in Australia. You can expect the rollout to reach more territories in the coming days. This first-gen clamshell folding phone also received the One UI 3.1.1 update last month, with a few new features. So don’t be hopeful of finding anything notable with the latest update, which is identified by the firmware version F707BXXS5EUI3.

Samsung released the October security update for its devices in the last week of September. The Galaxy S21 series received the new update first, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 foldables. The Galaxy S20, Note 20, Fold 2, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A52, Tab Active 3, Note 10, S20 FE, and a few others also picked up the latest SMR over the past couple of weeks. The rollout has now reached the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The entry-level Galaxy A02s is also receiving the new security update. If you own any of these devices and haven’t received the October update yet, you should soon. You can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings » software update » Download and install on your phone.
