Google processes billions of ads a year, and much of that advertising could go to fraudsters. Therefore, this search engine should do its best to provide healthy ads to its users. Google’s 2021 Ads Safety Report highlights the company’s efforts against ads that went against the overall policies. As a result, Google removed billions of ads and kicked millions of advertiser accounts from its ads network. Google claims that it has removed 3.4 billion ads and restricted more than 5.7 billion of them. Also, 5.6 million advertiser accounts are banned from the network. Google also detailed why it has removed this amount of ads. As per the report, 650 million ads removed due to abusing the ad network. Also, 280 ads violated the company’s policies over adult content. Trademark violations caused the removal of 137 million ads. 125.6 million ads also carried “inappropriate content.” Misrepresentation, gambling, healthcare, copyrights, and alcohol are other major reasons ads are removed from the Google Ads network. “We will continue to invest in policies, our team of experts, and enforcement technology to stay ahead of potential threats,” Google said in its report.

Google also announced over 30 policies or restrictions for advertisers and publishers. The imposed penalties are under the new policies that the company announced in 2021 and aimed to battle the ads that go against the policies. For example, any ad that denies climate change is prohibited. Also, Google launched a new certification for U.S. health insurance advertisers that only allows government exchanges, first-party providers, and licensed third-party brokers to run ads across the platform. “We continue to roll out new innovations on features like our “About this ad” menu to help you understand why an ad was shown, and which advertiser ran it,” Google noted.
