“The Google Nest Trusted Tester program is currently recruiting for a group of highly engaged testers that are willing to help Google Nest test an unreleased product,” the company says (via). “This program will focus on the next generation design of the Google Home App.” Google is looking for participants who are already using one or Nest devices. Since it’s the app that the company is testing, any Nest product would do, including thermostats, Wifi, smart speakers, smart displays, security cameras, doorbells, locks, Nest Protect (smoke alarms), and Chromecasts. Just that they must use either the Google Home app or the Nest app for controlling the product. The company will require participants to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
The Google Home app may get another redesign
The Google Home app may get another redesign
Google regularly updates the Home app to add new features, improve functionality, and make aesthetic changes. It recently introduced interactive toggles that let you quickly execute certain actions for your devices. You can play/pause media and adjust volume and brightness with just a tap or slide. The Home Feed tab also gained a compact list that shows more recent and relevant updates. These changes make it easier for users to control their Nest smart home devices. At Google I/O 2022 in May, the company also showcased a revamped Home app for Android tablets. This redesign made proper use of the big screens by adding a navigation rail. It appears Google has another major overhaul of the app in the plan. The company says it’s the “next generation design,” so we might be in for something big here. But considering that it is still recruiting testers, it could be a while until we hear more about this upcoming redesign. Meanwhile, if you meet the aforementioned criteria and are interested in helping Google in refining the Home app, you can head over to Centercode and create an account or sign in with an existing account to get started. Keep in mind that you will be subject to an NDA.
