Google says that some phones were running an older release of the software. Those phones actually needed a smaller Android 12 update, before they can update to Android 13. The company added that Android 13 will be rolling out over the coming weeks. So, you may not get it straight away on your Pixel phone. Google understands why the confusion happened, though. The timing of that small Android 12 update is not the best, that’s for sure. Some users started getting it after Android 13 started rolling out, and that caused confusion. Now, the Android 13 stable build is currently rolling out to Pixel phones. Google started the rollout less than two days ago. The update is rolling out to the Pixel 4, 5, and 6 series smartphones. Those are the eligible ones, everything older is excluded. Chances are other OEMs will start updating their phones in the near future as well. Some of them are faster than others, though, of course. Samsung is expected to commence updates soon.

So, what’s new in Android 13? Well, Android 13 is not a big overhaul of Android OS, or anything of the sort. It’s more of an iterative update with a ton of optimizations. Google actually patched up around 150 bugs with this update. It brings a ton of bug fixes, but also some new features and improvements. The company is delivering an enhanced Material You theming engine. You’ll get a ton of more color options with Android 13. New notification permissions are also included in the update, and so is the so-called ‘Phantom Process Killer’. A new and improved media player is also a part of the update, and so is the enhanced clipboard. If you’d like to read more about these features, and other improvements, click here.
