Samsung says that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will get four years of OS updates and five years of security updates. That’s a boost over the three and four years that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 got. And matches the Galaxy S22 from earlier this year. That promise puts them right up there with Google, in terms of software updates. And as we’ve seen in recent years, Samsung is serious about updates.

Samsung used to be one of the worst OEMs when it comes to keeping their phones updated. But in the last few years, Samsung has gotten really good about updating its phones. Sometimes updating with the latest security update before Google even announces it, which is really impressive to say the least. So to see them move to four years of OS updates and five years of security updates is not a surprise. However, after a year, you won’t be seeing monthly security updates from Samsung. You’ll move to once a quarter, which is what Google wants its partners to aim for. Updating with the latest security update, is really only needed about once a quarter (or every three months). It’s a nice weight to have lifted. Because now you know that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will get at least to Android 16 before it stops getting updated. Now that does also suck a bit, since we know that Android 13 is going to be launching in just a few weeks. As Google has already pushed out the final beta for Android 13. And the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is launching on Android 12, instead of 13. Good news for potential Galaxy Z Fold 4 buyers, nonetheless.
