The December security update patches 80 vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices
The December SMR for Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets patches as many as 80 vulnerabilities. Of those 67 vulnerability patches are part of Google’s latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin). These are flaws in Android OS and other partner components. They affect all Android products using those components. Google labeled five ASB patches in December as critical. Some of them could lead to remote code execution without any additional privileges. Additionally, 60 patches were labeled “high-severity” by the Android makers. Along with these ASB patches, the December SMR also brings 13 Galaxy-specific vulnerability fixes. These issues don’t exist in Android products from other brands. If you’re using the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, or Galaxy A52, all of these security fixes will reach your phone in the coming days. As usual, you can wait for a notification about the OTA (over the air) release or manually check for updates from the Settings app. Since updates are rolled out in batches, it may take a few days before everyone gets the latest release.
