That’s how popular the Wii was. It was something new and fresh from Nintendo that had never been seen before. It would be a tough act for even Nintendo to follow, if the less than desirable sales of the Wii U are anything to go by. Luckily for Nintendo, the Switch was a hit and it’s been one of the best-selling home consoles ever since. And now it’s sold more for Nintendo than any other home console to date.

This morning as part of Nintendo’s financial report for its third quarter fiscal year ending in March of 2022, the company details just how well the Switch has done. It’s been known for a while to be one of the fastest-selling consoles. And as of this morning Nintendo details that it has sold 103.54 million units of the Switch. It’s still a far cry from its two best-selling consoles overall. Which are the Game Boy at 118.69 million units, and the original Nintendo DS at a whopping 154.02 million units. It’s now beaten out the Wii’s 101.63 million units though. And for Nintendo, that’s a big win following the rather minor 13.56 million units sold of the Wii U.

In addition to reporting that the Switch is now the best-selling home console, Nintendo also details the lifetime sales of software for it alongside the company’s past offerings. Surprisingly, it hasn’t overtaken the Wii when it comes to software sales. The Wii sits at a total of 921.85 million units of software sold. The Switch on the other hand currently sits at 766.41 million units of software sold. At the top however is the DS with 948.76 million units. All of those numbers aside, the Nintendo Switch still has life in it. So it has time to become the best-selling home console for hardware and software.
