The new RTX 2050 will have some upgrades

NVIDIA introduced the RTX 20 series back in 2018, and that line was succeeded by the RTX 30 series. The RTX 2050 was thought to be dead at this point, but it seems that NVIDIA thinks otherwise. Starting in early 2022, the company will be releasing a new version of the RTX 2050 to the market. There are going to be some notable changes to some of the internals that will actually give this chip a bit of a performance boost. For starters, the new RTX 2050 will actually have the same Ampere GA107 architecture as the RTX 3050. Not only that, but it will also have the same 4GB of GDDR6 memory and the same 2,048 CUDA cores as the RTX 3050. All of these changes will give the new RTX 2050 some more juice to help it run some demanding games. While so much of the chip has changed, it will retain the same 64-bit memory bus as opposed to the 128-bit memory bus in the RTX 3050.

It’s not clear exactly when this GPU will hit the market. This global chip shortage is really making it hard for manufacturers to produce and ship product. What we know is that this new GPU will be released sometime next year in the springtime. This puts it in the second quarter of the year, most likely.

Right now, there are NVIDIA GPUs in the RTX 30 series and in the RTX 16 series; the new RTX 2050 seems like it will be right in the middle of the two. It’s expected to power midrange gaming laptops for some moderately heavy gaming. It will have some decent power to handle things like ray tracing. With so much of the RTX 3050’s DNA in it, we can expect some good performance from the new RTX 2050, and it should be a cheaper alternative. While this chip shortage goes on, it’s hard to tell how many of these we can expect at launch. Since it will have the same video memory, architecture, and cores as the RTX 3050 but with a lower price, the new RTX 2050 might be a popular chip. Right now, we have no information on the price and availability.
