The Elec reports (via) that this expansion would take the total number of Samsung’s foldable module lines to 10 up from seven. This would also bolster the company’s foldable panel production capacity from 1.4 million to between 1.5 million and 2 million units per month. The report claims that Samsung Display has already begun placing orders for the necessary equipment required for the module lines. This could enable the company to meet the annual foldable display shipment target of 18 million in 2022. By contrast, the company is forecasting 8.1 million shipments this year. Sources further said that the yield rate for Samsung Display’s foldable panel is at 90%. Of the 18 million units expected to ship next year, 14 million will go to Samsung Electronics. The rest of the foldable panels could go to other manufacturers.

Samsung reportedly wants to produce up to 10 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4

It’s no secret that Samsung is banking heavily on foldable display smartphones. We’re already coming across reports of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 even though their predecessors launched only recently. The manufacturer’s foldables have also likely replaced the Galaxy Note lineup for good. A November report said that Samsung wants to ship at least 10 million units of the fourth-gen foldables in Q3 and Q4 of 2022. The Galaxy S22 will continue to be the company’s premium flagship in 2022. The company expects to produce at least 38 million units of the flagship next year. Another report claimed that the upcoming Samsung foldables could actually be cheaper than their predecessors. While Samsung’s foldables are pretty exciting, their steep price tags make them unappealing to a large section of smartphone users. Keeping this in mind, a lower price tag for the fourth generation Samsung foldable makes sense. Of course, there’s a lot we still don’t know about Samsung’s plans for foldables. Hopefully, we’ll have a better idea over the next few months.
