Xiaomi proved that toothpaste can’t help your phone’s scratched screen

The company actually posted a video regarding this, to prove that it’s just a myth. In the company’s YouTube Shorts video, Xiaomi applied toothpaste on a scratched up display. You’ll notice that toothpaste didn’t do anything to amend the issue. It did not help at all. Xiaomi explains the theory behind the toothpaste fix. The substance is supposed to polish the convex part of a scratch, and fill in the dent. Other sources also said that the abrasive quality of toothpaste removes a thin layer of plastic from the display, and that removes scratches as it levels out the surface. Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case, even though there are some videos out there that share a different story. It’s possible those videos are fabricated, though, of course. Xiaomi gave the toothpaste some time to work after applying it. It rubbed it all over the screen, and waited. After removing it with a polishing cloth, there were no changes. Toothpaste is a polishing agent of sorts, but the microparticles in the substance didn’t remove scratches from the screen, not at all.

In fact, toothpaste can have a negative effect on your phone’s display. Why? Well, it can remove the oleophobic coating from the screen, which makes it oil-resistant, and protects it from fingerprints. So, it turns out that replacing your screen is the only option, which is logical. Not many people believed the toothpaste method, even though quite a few of them probably tried it out. Either way, don’t try putting toothpaste on your phone’s display, that’s obviously not a good idea.
